Conflict
"Nothing worthwile is without conflict. There needs to be a worthy opponent. A puzzle. A conflict of ideas." -James Patterson
Emptiness vs. Engaging #conflict
- Watch the opening of the film "Rango". It puts both empty, constructed and engaging conflict right next to each other. If you understand this, it will make your films better.
- The Protagonist could be anyone. Conflict is necessary. The hero needs to be propelled into conflict by an unexpected event. Rango is in a constructed universe before. But then, when the Terrarium falls out, there is conflict. He is forced to act differently. It's immediately understandable.
How do you design a conflict that propels the character into a conflict?
Identify the Conflict
Static Conflict
Example: "I would prefer not to." You want a conflict that evolves
